-"G-MASTER Hyper Knuckle"-

-The secret of Kawabata's Silvia 2007 D1 Grand Prix Series Championship-

Dai-"Now, I understand why you could show the unbelievable angle in this season." Kawabata-"Yes, many shops usually modify stock knuckles, but GP Sports made 100% original in 2 pieces style which accomodate adjustable spacers. This miracle knuckle brought me 2007 D1 Grand Prix Championship."

The ultimate steering knuckle for the drifting purpose has been completed by GP Sports after their D1 racing tests in Kawabata's Silvia. It was the secret of Silvia’s unbelievable angle and speed in 2007 D1 races, but it still has more benefits for you!

2007 was the year of knuckle tuning as the advanced modification technology in the Japanese drifting industry, as resumed in the article on November issue of "DRIFT TENGOKU". Normally tuning shops modify stock knuckles into their own original shapes to have maximum steering angle. However, GP Sports has made their original die-cast knuckle, because they couldn't be satisfied with the modified knuckle to realize their ideal drifting style.

Another advantage is the steering angle. Keeping the same length between the spindle and the lower ball joint avoids quick steering, and the shallower angle of the lower ball joint arm keeps the normal tie-rod joint location for maximum steering angle. The maximum steering angle at the right tire was measured as 50 degree, and the actual position on the steering wheel turns about 1/6 of the wheel more than the normal position with stock knuckle.

The most important point of their goals was to raise the roll center, without sacrificing other factors necessary for drifting. With their uniquely designed original knuckle, the front roll center was raised by 20mm(0.8 inch), and can be further raised by maximum 50mm (2 inches) with optional spacers, since their original knuckle is prepared in two-pieces configuration to accommodate optional spaces between the spindle side and the lower ball joint section. But the body height stays low, since its length of the upper ball joint from the spindle is same with the length of the stock knuckle. Accordingly the center of gravity of the whole body stays at the same height, keeping the same stability of the lowered machine.

GP sports Hyper Knuckle kit for Silvia/Laurel

One of the most common problems I see J-car enthusiasts stumble upon is one that is largely self-inflicted. The first thing many modifiers do is lower their car with a set of coilovers or lowering springs (or cut springs, if they're extra stupid) and while a lower car certainly looks nice, a significant drop in ride height can play havoc with your car's handling if you're not careful. Thankfully, GP Sports have got a solution. Their new Hyper Knuckle kit and Super Knuckle kit are direct bolt-in replacements for the standard front steering knuckle on S13-15 Silvias and C34-35 Laurels and they both correct a lot of problems associated with lowered cars, as well as giving a few extra advantages for drifters. One of the primary side-effects of lowering is a change in height of the roll center, an imaginary point upon which dynamic forces are exerted on the car - on the Silvia/Laurel's Macpherson-strut front suspension, dropping ride height also brings the roll center height (RCH) closer to the road and further away from the center of gravity (COG). In basic terms, the further away the RCH is from the COG the greater the severity of roll during cornering, so whilst your slab might look totally dope scrapin' along the boulevard, it's going to handle like crap once you take it to the track. The GP Sports knuckles eliminate this problem by bringing the lower ball-joint seat further down, thus correcting the angle of the lower control arm and returning the RCH closer to stock height (below).

GP Sports have also dropped the height of the steering arm on their knuckles, thus eliminating that other bane of lowered cars: bump steer. Lowering your car changes the relationship between the tie-rod to the steering rack, generally introducing an upward slant. When hitting a bump the tie-rod's angle increases even further, thereby shortening the effective length of the steering arm and making the wheel momentarily toe-in or toe-out, which makes the car feel like it wants to 'jump' left or right. Lastly, the GP Sports knuckles also feature a shortened steering arm, which when used in conjunction with a steering rack spacer allows you to get a significant increase in steering angle (below) - vital if you drift on a competitive level.

The GP Sports knuckles are available in two forms: Hyper Knuckle or Super Knuckle. The Hyper Knuckle is split just above the ball joint seat, allowing a spacer to be inserted between the ball-joint/steering arm and the rest of the knuckle to permit up to 40mm of RCH/bump steer correction on extremely lowered cars. The Super Knuckle's mounting points are fixed at 20mm lower than stock, but this should be fine for the vast majority of street-driven cars. The Super Knuckle Kit retails for JPY 68,000, while the Hyper Knuckle kit sells for JPY 98,000 with spacers starting from JPY 12,800. Of course, you can correct all of the above by using a variety of spacers and other (cheaper) aftermarket parts, but won't be able to beat the simplicity and design of the GP Sports knuckles. Besides, being a cast item it's also far less likely to break than a bunch of spacers. Check out GP Sports for more info.

Siapa dia `Loyai`??

“Table semua penuh. Kalau awak nak main, join kita orang dulu. Nanti bila kami blah awak slow slow ajak kawan, mainlah kat table ni,” ketika itu sekumpulan remaja sudah lama menunggu di tepi meja pool.

“Nama saya Loyai,” katanya memperkenalkan diri.

“Saya Mazidul”Daripada riak wajahnya, dia tidak mengenali saya ketika itu sudah 5 tahun berkhidmat di TV3.Peristiwa itu berlaku 8 tahun lalu. Kami bertemu sewaktu saya secara berkebetulan berkunjung ke kelab American Pool di Sunway Mentari Business Park, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

“Gua blah dulu,” dia menghulurkan tangan sewaktu beredar bersama 3 rakannya.Sejak itu Loyai menjadi sahabat juga saudara. Dia orang pendiam tetapi punya keberanian.

Toyota KE70, gua beli 10 ribu, modified tambah sport rims, cat two k, lebih kurang 4 ribu. Enjin Toyota AE86, 1.6 CC,” ujarnya kepada saya ‘buta’ mengenai kereta.

Dalam Impak Maksima, Loyai menjadi stuntman pemandu drift menggunakan keretanya sendiri, Nissan Cefiro biru 2.5 CC.

“Dah lama lu main drift eh?,” soal saya.

“Dalam 2 tahun. Filem tamil gua jadi stuntman, ‘Billa’ tu box-office di India dengarnya. Tapi pelakon dia pun superstar, Ajit Kumar,” Loyai memang gemar merendah diri.
